Many people think that there are two type of Skills
Motor Skills, which you hear Parents talk a lot about
Mental Skills
There are also “Job Skills.”
Nothing closes our RAS Filters more than the limiting and blinding word “Skills.”
Let’s get this RAS open.
A Skill is only how well you do or don’t do anything.
What you are really saying when you say Skill is “What can you do?”
The problem is, 100% of all Skills are Mental Skills. Motor Skills are how well your Mental Skills can control your body movements.
In order to understand Skill, you need to think about the Physical Circuit and Pathway the Skills run on.
You Choose to do something, the Electrical signal goes to the brain, the body responds.
Thinking is a Skill.
Pausing is a Skill.
Every Ethics is a Skill.
Cognitive Skills are constantly being used and practiced by us.
Projection Skills. Communication Skills. Translation, Reception, Math, Logic, Reasoning, Learning, Typing, Processing, Analyzing.
Data Analysis is one of the most terrifying words to someone who struggles with Math.
Analysis is only
- Observation Skills
- Pattern Recognition Skills
- Measurement-Of-Growth Skills
- Forecasting Prediction Skills
This is called… “A Trend.”
News Flash. Everytime you think about the Future, you are doing Data Analysis on your own Life. You just don’t know it. Every time you “calculate the odds” of your pass or fail on something, you have accomplished Data Analysis with your personal Trending Market.
Ignorance of Vocabulary often results in the scariest, most intimidating analysis of Data. Education is the tool that narrows in on the most-likely of probabilities.
As people learn, they say, “Wait! I already do this!” And the more you learn, the more you will say, “Wait! I already do this!”
Sit down. Wait for it.
You already have Mastered all of the Skills that there are in the entire World. Your Brain and Mind Intuitively do them when you Live.
It can’t help it.
Your job is how to recognize those Skills and Diversify them. Your job is getting them to be applied in different Applications.
It is not the Skills that are the problem or the Challenge. It is in the Training of how to Diversify them.
I have been playing the piano since I was 4 years old. And, in 1992, when Steve Jobs put Apple Computers in my School, I learned Typing. It was not a new Skill for me.
It was the same Mental Skill. Only, instead of 88 keys in a Horizontal row, I have QWERTY… which was hard for me to type just now because QWERTY is in a Horizontal row.
Same Skill. Different Application.
The 10-digit Calculator Entry… Oh, that is also a different Application.
One Skill, 3 Applications.
You are not taught how to Diversify what you already have Mastered.
This is what I call Brain Stretching.
There are two parts to Skill Mastering.
There is you Applying the Skill in Practice.
Then there is you CHANGING the Skill from Active “A” to Active “B” to Active “C.” This is the Skill of Adapting.
When you practice One Skill, you are in “Resting Skill” Mode.
When you are practicing Multiple Skills at the same time, you are in “Adaption Skill” Mode.
You don’t need to learn a Skill. Living naturally does that.
What you need to do is practice the Adaption Skill. Training your Mind how to Switch. This literally is an Elasticity of the Brain, which causes it to Adapt to Change. It is the going from Piano to Singing to Composition.
The other day, a Driver was blocking the intersection. He was trying to Navigate and Drive at the same time. Clearly, he was new at Mental Diversification. He could not do both simultaneously.
You may be thinking, “Wait! I can do that!” This is why Driving is so hard for some people when they start. People who play Video Games have Mastered the Skills of Mental Diversification.
You don’t want your brain to “rest.”
Let’s look at Traditional Schools.
Children go in, sit, and read or listen for 45 minutes. Then move for 3 to 5 minutes and then they sit, and read or listen for 45 minutes. Then move for 3 to 5 minutes and then they sit, and read or listen for 45 minutes. Then move for 3 to 5 minutes and then they sit, and read or listen for 45 minutes. Then move for 3 to 5 minutes and then they… You get the idea.
This is Brain Resting. When I tell my Students to play Piano — not any other instrument — it is because only the Piano has you using your Left hand, Right hand, Foot, and Vocals all at the same time while you are reading sheet music. That is 5 Skills at the same time with Physics Frequency Control.
Mental Diversification.
ADHD people are going to love this.
I know — I have done so much work on this — I know that people with ADHD are the next evolution of the Mind. They are the people who are MASTERS at Mental Diversification. But they are not Disciplined in it. They are not taught how to use it. They are not even taught what it is.
Muggles have labeled them, abused them, slandered them, and boxed them up.
The more intelligent a person, the more the Mind masters Mental Diversification. It does it naturally. This is why I have a podcast, Books, Free Courses, Dance, Knit, Sing, Trade, Network, and run my business.
Mental Diversification.
There are stages — a Sequence — of Skill Building.
- Pre-Apprentice (The people who are not actively training)
- Apprentice
- Tradesmen
- Master (This is where you can Explain this Simply Enough)
- Philosopher (This is where you Invent new Disciplines)
- Philosopher-Sage (This is where Wisdom begins)
- Philosopher-Geni
- Philosopher-Magi (The 3 Wise-Men were here)
- Philosopher-Logi
One day, people will realize that “Philosopher” is a Skill Level of Educational Training and Knowledge and not an actual Profession.
Listen to John Cleese on Being Stupid and how to measure your own Knowledge.
The Apprentice’s greatest Challenge is the “aches and pains” of Applying skills in a new way. You know when you haven’t exercised in 20 years. And you suddenly decide to move. Yeah. That’s the Apprentice Equivalent.
You know when you exercise and you aren’t thinking about it. You’re Mindlessly just doing it. And when someone asks, “How are you doing that!?”
And you say, “I don’t know. I’m just… doing it. Figure it out for yourself.” These are Tradesmen.
The Master is the Proficient Professional who becomes Consciously Aware of how they are doing what they do and can reverse engineer to explain it Simply. Only the Master or higher is qualified to teach.
“If you cannot explain it simply, then you do not understand it well enough.” – Einstein
Einstein was referring to Masters.
The Philosopher can use that Knowledge to expand on it, evolve it, and/or create something entirely new.
The Sage can Self-Regulate and cherish the Silence of Observation while they watch and savor the Learning of Others. Time slows down to non-existence for the Sage because they have found the State of Being outside of Time.
Time comes to mean something entirely different for the Sage.
The question is never “What do I want to be when I grow up?” but rather, “What skills do you want to be good at in your life?” What would you love to be able to do?
One must always know how to ask the right questions and always at the right time.
This too is a Skill.
Skills are only learned through Doing and Application in Real Life and only in Compliance with your Life Stream. You violate this, and you will not integrate the Skill.
I refer you to Edgar Dale’s Cone of Learning:
For this reason, Philosophers of Ancient Greece had their students DOING and DEBATING in DISCUSSION. Nothing else. This is why we had Apprentices, Tradesmen, and Masters for much of the Dark Ages.
Edgar Dale’s Cone of Learning is known data proven by Neuroscientists. Fire any teacher and/or Educational System who is too ignorant to apply Mr. Dale’s Cone of Learning to your Educational System. This is not new data. It was discovered in the 1960’s. We have had this data for 80 years. Educators consciously continue to choose not use this to teach.
Skill Development is not in the Physical Body. It is in the Mind. You are training your RAS what to Focus On. But, for that, you need to know how to open your RAS.
A closed RAS blinds you to your Skills.
