You need to know how to Entertain yourself without Technology (Fire and Story).

You need to know Campfire Cooking.

You need a Communication Plan.

You need to know how to Secure a Safe Place for yourself so you can rest and stay warm at your leisure.

You need to know how to get to where you are going.

 

Having this knowledge and a plan to get these things goes a long way in you feeling far more prepared if something goes wrong. 

The Healing Garden does Campfire Communities — In Real Life — to train people how to Build Fires, Cook on Campfires — Even Vegetarian — and basic Survival. 

 

I will never tire of telling my “Campfire Coffee” story. We lost Power back a few years ago. I woke with no Electricity. I used Whole Beans for my coffee, which I ground with an Electric Coffee Grinder every morning. 

This one morning, I woke to no power and I didn’t “flinch.” I pulled out the Mortar and Pestle, ground my Beans, built a Fire, and an hour later I savored Campfire Coffee.

THEN I called the Electric Company. “When will the power be back on?” It was out for 2 days.

 

Another time, I was grilling dinner when the ignition stopped working. I didn’t blink. I simply turned around, built a fire, and transferred the food to the Fire Pit. 

My Then-Husband came out about 20 minutes later.

“What are you doing? Why aren’t you using the Grill?”

I shrugged. “It stopped working.”

“The gas tank was empty. Why didn’t you just go get the other one from the garage?”

I blinked. “Oh.” And then I laughed. “You know. It never even occurred to me. I could just as easily start a fire and just finish cooking here.” And I did. 

Campfire Cooking is the most handy Resource Skill… and when you know it, it empowers you. 

Food, Sleep, Safety, and Warmth. 

If you know how to get these four things, half of your Stresses and Anxieties will vanish. 

Knowing how to Knit. Knowing how to Garden. Knowing how to Entertain yourself and Others with Stories and Books or Communication… Knowing how to Sit inside of Boredom, Savor and Enjoy. 

Knowing how to Slow Down. 

This is where you reconnect with Resourcefulness.
