I am literally pausing a conversation with my children right now while I right this. “They don’t teach this anymore!” she was shouting. “They taught it in School, but as soon as we got to Highschool, NOTHING! And then everyone was an asshole! Why don’t they teach it!?”

I remember having “The Golden Rule” shoved down my throat in the 1980’s. So much so that, by 1995, we all have Trauma from having had “The Golden Rule” and Emily Post crammed down our throats… So much so that we “swung the other way” on that Pendulum and we didn’t teach it at all. 

I explained to my Children just now, “We had Abusive Adults who crammed this down our throats while they violated “The Golden Rule” with “Do as I say. Not as I do.”

The Injustice of this. The Ethical Violation of this was disgusting. The Double Standard. The Hypocrisy. “Treat Others as you want to be treated while I treat you like shit. Obey and don’t Copy my Behavior because I want to be exempt from Karma and Reciprocity.” 

THAT is what many Adults taught and told Children in the 1980’s and 1990’s. And for many of us, it is a wound that still hurts and runs DEEP.

My son piped up, “You never taught us The Golden Rule,” he said.

“No,” I said. “Because of the Trauma associated with the Double Standard and Abuse of it.”

Too well I remember pompous, gloating Adults — Laughing — as they bragged about their Hypocrisy to my Aunts and Uncles and Grandparents. They were the Parents who should have stepped in and said, “YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES!”

“Treat Others as you want to be treated while I treat you like shit. Obey and don’t Copy my Behavior because I want to be exempt from Karma and Reciprocity.” 

So, for nearly 30 decades, no one under 45 repeated The Golden Rule. We didn’t want to be hypocrites like our Parents.

And now here we are.

I was groomed into “Nice” and “Obedient.” We all were. And then we swung the other way. And now, it’s time to swing back… But before we do…

It is time to Integrate A with B. 

Learn The Golden Rule and Emily Post. Amend The Golden Rule with ESPECIALLY ADULTS. And respect The 12 Ethics. The 2nd Ethic — Self-Authority — allows for the Freedom to Choose — without having someone beat you to death with their Point. 

Reserve Damnation before Crime.

Do not distribute Punishment without Crime.
