In order to determine Location, you require three points. Without all three points, you cannot know where you are in relativity (relation) to something.
You need to know the Horizon Line, The Focal Point (Object) and The Subject (You) in order to know where you are in relation to The Object.
The Artist is the One who sets up the Physics within a Projection so the Viewer (The Subject) can Know and Find themselves.
The Artist must know Optic Physics. This is their Mastery.
The Horizon line is as far as the Eye can See. This is the Background and is the “Distance.” It is “The Destination Point.” In real life, it is our Dream.
Every time we look at Art, we are — literally or Imaginary — projecting as far as the Eye can See and measuring the distance between the Object and the Horizon line. We do this by knowing how “big” or how “small” something appears.
Everything in Art is about Depth, Location, and Proportion, which communicates to the Viewer their Relative Position to the Object.
The Horizon Line is implied in the cases where it is not physically visible. The Horizon Line is the Point Furthest Away.
The Artist has to choose what relationship they are going to present to the Viewer. What is the Location to the Object? What is the Point of View to the Object?
Are they (The Subject) high? Low? Near? Far? Are they (The Subject) inside or outside? Are they Zoomed in or Zoomed out? Are they Omniscient? Are they in the front or the back?
You must always remember that YOU — the Artist, Apprentice, and/or The Viewer — is the 3rd Location Point in any and all Art. You are the Subject. Art is always about You — the Viewer — at the time that you are Viewing or Creating it.
Only the Artists gets Author Privilege, which you get after you Master Drawing/Painting without a Reference.
Degas only painted the Dancers Backstage, never on stage. He wanted to capture Movement and show Ballet as it was, and not what it was presented to be. He wanted it real.
Degas chose to place YOU — the Viewer — Backstage of the ballet.
Apprentices start by Mimicking Masters. Once they are Tradesmen, they can start choosing their own Perspective to show Viewers which Perspective they want Viewers to Experience.
All learning begins with Mimicking others. This is why Quality is so important. If you Mimic someone who is not a Master, then you mimic unpolished and unmastered Skills.
Nothing has Definition until it is compared to another to determine the Relative Location. In order to Define anything, you must have an Origin (Horizon Line) and a Subject (You).
In Art, The Focal Point is the Object of Study. You are the Subject. Only this tells the Viewer what the location (position) that the Object is in.
Your Eyes translate (calculate) the distance and position to the Object to define your location and the location to the Object.
The Artist is the Master who can choose Placement to Illustrate which Perspective they want the Viewer to experience.
Before you can choose placement to communicate Perspective, you must know all the different ways Perspective can be illustrated with Point of View.
