When people think about Location or being lost, they think of a compass. Scientists know that is is incorrect.
A Compass only provides one of three required Points in Location.
The Science of Location is Triangulation. You require a Triangle with Three Points.
What you are really doing in Location is measuring two distances:
How much you did Journey.
How much more you have left to Journey.
When you are lost, you need to know where you came from (Origin) and you need to know where you are going (Destination).
But YOU — The Subject — are the 3rd Party that measures your Location between Starting point and End Point. Many people forget to include The Self in all things.
In Art, the Artist is providing the Viewer — The Self — with the Three Coordinates (Locations) so they can know where they are, in relation to the other Two Points.
All Artists provide Two Points :
- The Horizon (Destination)
- The Object (Focal Point) or “Where you are now”
- But the Subject — The Viewer — is the Origin.
This is the beauty of Art. Art has no meaning unless it is being Viewed and only in the moment that it is being Viewed.
This is what Museums build their Displays around. “The Journey of Perspective Through the Windows of Destinations and Objects. The final Piece is The Viewer.
Where will you go? What will you see? You are the most important piece of The Art. Without the Viewer, the Art does not exist.
You glance up at the Art. You eye locates “The Furthest Point.” your Subconscious Mind — in the speed of a Synapses — measures your distance to the Horizon.
Your eye drifts to The Focal Point.
And an emotion comes over you. You are now Experiencing Art by stepping into a Story Frozen in Time. What is the Story? Where are you going? What does it mean? Only you — The Viewer — can decide.
The Subject is the most important part of all Art.
The Artist decides “This is the Perspective I want the Viewer to experience. This is what I see. I will paint the scene and allow them the experience of my Perspective.”
But Interpretation will be different for every person.
Now the Philosopher steps in. And what is your Interpretation? And yours? Let’s compare all the Perspectives. Are they the same? Are they different? What did this piece mean to you?
This is Art. Never forget it.
The Artist is the Author of The Perspective. They have the important task of Rebuilding a Perspective. First from Mimicry and then through Creativity.
Only the Master and Philosopher has Integrated the Lesson to the point of Creativity.
Skills, Tools, Techniques, and Comprehension are mandatory in building the Journey into this Art, but Creativity comes later as the reward to the Student for Diligence.
The Artist begins as a Viewer (The Outsider). As they Master their skill, the Viewer becomes the Artist (The Insider).
Only when you have both, The Insider Point of View and the Outsider Point of View with The Self (Subject) do you get Perspective and thus, Full Comprehension.
That is your Journey, Student of Art, to learn both Points of Views and then to Integrate them with your Interpretation to get Perspective.
