This truly is the Genius of The Ancient Greek Educational System, and one that simply excites me. After completing Philosophy, it is a tradition for philosophers to build their own schools and develop their own society:
The Republic by Plato
Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand
The Prince by Machiavelli
The Communist Manifesto by Karl Marx
Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy by Douglas Adams who said “I would just blow it up!”
The Healing Garden is my School… The Radical Global Healing Plan is my answer to Societal Problems. It’s a Philosopher Thing.
Aristotle’s University was a “walking” school (This is what Christ’s school was), and they spent much of their time in the Lyceum, which was a Gymnasium Community. This was due to Aristotle’s Value on Athleticism and the Body.
Imagine for a moment the Competitive, Sports-Based Physical Education class we all had in School. And reflect on their mentality and mindset toward the Arts and Academia.
Now imagine a School where the Physical Education was focused instead on Tai Chi, Martial Arts, Yoga, and Breathing. How might that change the attitude toward Arts and Academia?
Imagine the schools that have Swimming Pools in them? How is that Mindset toward Academia different than schools without Swimming Pools?
Or a Physical Education class that offered Dance classes?
What about a school that offers all of these options for the Student to choose from?
How would that reflect the Learning Environment?
Food for Thought.
