In 86 BCE, Rome destroyed both Plato’s Academia and Aristotle’s Lyceum

The war on Education had already begun. 

I have a huge suspicion that Alexander The Great was the marker for a War Campaign by the Roman Empire that began in 356 BCE and that came to an apex in 380 CE.
